Instagram suspended the pornography website Pornhub from its platform.
The social platform removed the promotional account for the popular website on Saturday, according to Variety. It’s unclear what guidelines the account may have violated. The removal arrives as Pornhub’s parent company, Mindgeek, faces increased pressure from courts for its role in sharing child sexual abuse-related material.

Anti-pornography advocates praised the sudden suspension. “Instagram was right to remove Pornhub from its platform for violating its community standards given the increasing reports of Pornhub hosting child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sex trafficking, filmed rape, and non-consensual videos and images,” said Dawn Hawkins, the CEO of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, in a statement.
The suspension arrived a month after Visa and Mastercard decided to cut off payment privileges from TrafficJunky, the advertising branch of Mindgeek. The two companies made the decision in light of a July court ruling that Visa could be liable in a suit over child sexual abuse material on Pornhub because it is the tool used to pay for and fund the content.
The company also faced pressure in June when a New Yorker investigation revealed that Pornhub had hosted nonconsensual content and child sexual abuse material for years. The revelations led to two executives resigning from the company and an unknown number of layoffs at Mindgeek.

The pornography website’s promotional material remains present on other platforms, including Youtube and Twitter.
Last week, regulators in the United Kingdom said they would take additional actions to police age restrictions regarding whether underage users can access pornographic websites such as Pornhub.
Instagram and Pornhub did not respond to requests for comment from the Washington Examiner.
