President Trump is holding the first of two rallies Monday evening in Mississippi to support Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith in her runoff election against Democratic challenger Mike Espy on Tuesday.
The event, in Tupelo, is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m. CT.
The runoff was triggered after Hyde-Smith and Espy tied on Election Day.
Hyde-Smith has had several campaign contributors demand refunds of their contributions amid the fallout from a number of controversies, including one related to a joke she made about wanting to attend a “public hanging” and the implications of her attendance of a racially segregated school in the 1970s.
Trump has defended Hyde-Smith, arguing that her comments were not racially charged and stressed that she is “needed” in Congress.
