Tim Kaine snarks on unconfirmed report of Trump gifting Kim Jong Un ‘Rocket Man’ on CD

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., joked about reports that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was bringing a President Trump-signed CD of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” to North Korea, saying Kim Jong Un would send back Green Day’s “American Idiot” to the White House.

South Korean media outlet Chosun Ilbo reported Friday that unnamed U.S. sources said Trump was gifting the CD that he signed with a message to Kim. Yet Yahoo reported that Pompeo “laughed off” the report when asked about it.

However, Kaine responded to the outlet’s report claiming that Kim would send Trump back a gift of his own: a copy of Green Day’s hit “American Idiot.”

Trump often referred to Kim as “Little Rocket Man” during the height of nuclear tensions between the U.S. and North Korea last year.

According to the South Korean report, during the summit between the two world leaders in Singapore last month, Kim brought up the reference and said he had never before heard the hit.

Chosun Ilbo reported that Trump remembered the conversation and told Pompeo to take Kim a copy of the CD with the song on it.

The State Department did not respond to a request for comment on whether the report was true.

Pompeo arrived in Pyongyang Friday for a two-day visit, marking his third trip to North Korea.
