Instagram’s parent company Meta announced new messaging updates on its platform.
Now, users can see which of their friends are online and reply to messages while perusing the app. This is similar to how Facebook Messaging works, only within the same app.
“We’re making more investments in messaging to help you connect with your closest friends in more fun and seamless ways,” its announcement read.

The seven updates include sending music via Spotify and even sending “silent” messages, meaning they can be sent without a notification. Users can also send polls in group chats, a function that was only available via Instagram stories.
