Safe at home

Maryland emergency planners expected the 17th and 18th flights carrying Americans evacuated from war-torn Lebanon to arrive at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Thursday night.

Almost 3,800 citizens have passed through the airport?s makeshift “repatriation center,” where state employees and Red Cross volunteers have provided passengers with food, computers, phones and cash assistance for additional travel.

State officials said the center is “winding down” as the last evacuees arrive in Baltimore and other select East Coast airports. The final ship departure from Lebanon to Cyprus is scheduled today, according to the federal state department.
