P.G. County taxicab expansion moves forward

Prince George’s County will move forward in expanding its taxicab service on Wednesday following a three-week, court-ordered moratorium on registering new drivers.

The county’s Department of Environmental Resources will immediately resume accepting applications from drivers seeking one of the newly approved taxicab permits, according to agency officials.

The county passed legislation in July adding 390 driver permits to the county’s existing 775 permits.

The county’s three largest cab companies are challenging the legislation, saying it will cripple their businesses.
