Police in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, have arrested a black man after a woman claimed he abducted her and forced her to watch the nine-hour 1977 miniseries Roots to combat “her racism.”
Robert Lee Noye, 52, was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree harassment and false imprisonment.
The woman told police that Noye made her sit and watch the miniseries, which chronicles the journey of a family brought to America through the slave trade, “so she could better understand her racism.”
The woman said Noye threatened to “kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago” if she didn’t agree to his demands.
