A coin flip could determine whether President Trump gets subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to Rudy Giuliani.
The latest addition to President Trump’s legal team told ABC News he thinks there is a “50/50” chance of the president getting subpoenaed by the special counsel’s team in relation to their Russia investigation.
“I think it’s 50/50,” Giuliani said. “But I got to prepare for that 50 percent.”
The former New York City mayor and outspoken Republican was brought on to the president’s legal team in April to help with matters related to the federal investigation into possible collusion between Russian officials and the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. Since joining the team he has been negotiating the terms of a possible sit-down interview between the president and Mueller.
“They’re going to close the investigation within a month, one-and-a-half, or two months of the interview,” Giuliani explained. “We’ll get all the questions in advance, we’ll knock it down to about half of what they wanted to ask.”
Earlier this week, the Washington Post reported that, during a meeting between Mueller and Trump’s legal team in early March, Mueller raised the possibility of a subpoena to compel Trump to appear before a grand jury should he attempt to dodge meeting with federal investigators.
The president has repeatedly denied any collusion between his campaign and Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election.
