Dems, Fimian quickly launch first broadsides

Well, that didn’t take long.

GOP congressional hopeful Keith Fimian and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fired opening shots Tuesday evening, as Fimian was still wrapping up his 11th district primary win.

In an e-mail to supporters, Fimian wrote that U.S. Rep. Gerald Connolly “has gone on a spending spree and has utterly ignored the need to get our economy moving. Voters will see a contrast with a businessman who knows how to create jobs and reduce spending, versus a career politician who is a rubber stamp for out-of-control government.”

Meanwhile, the DCCC sent out an e-mail with the not-too-subtle subject line “Keith Fimian’s Extreme Agenda: Bad for Northern Virginia Families.”

“Fimian’s embrace of the far right puts him out of touch with middle-class voters in Fairfax and Prince William that want a congressman who stands up for them,” said Jesse Ferguson, Southern Regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Keith Fimian puts quality of life issues in Northern Virginia a distant second to his extremist agenda.”

If you’re keeping score at home, there are still nearly five months until the Nov. 2 general election …
