An aircraft plummeted into the waters of Long Beach Island, New Jersey, on Thursday afternoon, officials confirmed.
The plane was carrying at least three people and landed 1 mile from the coastline, according to NBC New York, which cited information from local law enforcement.
The Coast Guard’s Mid-Atlantic branch confirmed the development.
“We have received a report of a plane crash off Long Beach Island, NJ. Coast Guard has diverted a helo from Air Station Atlantic City and crews from Station Atlantic City and Station Barnegat Light,” the branch tweeted. “Updates to follow.”
