Lawmaker: Make George W. Bush’s home a national landmark

Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, wants the federal government to study whether President George W. Bush’s childhood home should be designated as a national landmark.

The home Bush lived in as a child, at 1412 West Ohio Ave. in Midland, Texas, is already a museum. The bill from Conaway, who represents Midland, would require a study into whether it should be made a part of the National Park system.

The study would have to “consider other alternatives for preservation, protection, and interpretation of the site” by federal and state officials.

It would also have to examine the costs and other effects of designating the home as a national site of interest.
