Poll: Trump overtakes Clinton in Nevada

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has overtaken his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in Nevada, according to a new poll released on Wednesday.

According to the latest Monmouth poll, Trump leads the former secretary of state by a slim 2-point margin, taking 44 percent support to Clinton’s 42 percent. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is currently backed by 8 percent of respondents, while 3 percent intend to pull the lever for “none of these candidates,” which is an option on the ballot in the state.

In Monmouth’s previous Nevada poll taken in July, Clinton held a 4-point advantage over the real estate mogul, but that has changed in the two months since. The poll was also taken from Sept. 11-13, meaning most of it was taken after Clinton’s medical episode on Sunday while attending a memorial commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks and her remark that half of Trump supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.”

According to the latest RealClearPolitics average of Nevada polls, Clinton leads by a 1.5-point margin over Trump.

Republicans also got good news on the Senate front as Rep. Joe Heck currently leads Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto by 3 points. Heck currently leads with 46 percent backing to Cortez Masto’s 43 percent. In the July poll, Heck led by 2 points.

According to the latest RCP average, Heck holds a slim 1.2-point lead over Cortez Masto, holding 42 percent support to Cortez Masto’s 40.8. The winner will replace outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
