Maryland officials are urging drivers to avoid the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel this summer.
Repairs to the 55-year-old bridge on Interstate 895 just south of the tunnel could cause hourlong delays starting around June 20, officials warned.
The $5 million repair project, funded by toll revenues, requires eight weeks of lane closures.
“Our message is very clear — avoid I-895 this summer and instead use the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 or the Key Bridge on I-695,” said Maryland Transportation Authority Executive Secretary Harold Bartlett in a statement. “If you drive I-895, expect major delays, especially during rush hours.”
