President Trump will reportedly frame his remarks at the United Nations General Assembly this week around “sovereignty.”
“Mutual respect and sovereignty” will be the theme of his speech Tuesday, Axios reported Sunday. It will be Trump’s biggest speech of the week in New York.
On Wednesday Trump plans to focus on the “malign activity” of Iran, specifically its ballistic missile proliferation when the Iran deal was implemented, when he chairs the U.N. Security Council. In a tweet Friday, Trump said the subject of the meeting would be Iran, though he did not give additional details.
Trump is also addressing a counter-narcotics summit on Monday where he intends to speak about the global opioids crisis.
“This is something he really wants to bring up, how there can be a global effort to fight the opioid crisis,” a senior administration official told the news outlet.
Trump teased his week ahead in a tweet about his Sunday night meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
“We have done much to help Japan, would like to see more of a reciprocal relationship,” he wrote.
Going to New York. Will be with Prime Minister Abe of Japan tonight, talking Military and Trade. We have done much to help Japan, would like to see more of a reciprocal relationship. It will all work out!
