A photograph of former President Donald Trump will be featured in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery when it reopens in May.
“Installed in the museum’s signature exhibition, ‘America’s Presidents,’ the portrait will hang in a space reserved for the nation’s most recent former president and will be a part of the permanent collections,” Smithsonian Magazine reported.

The photograph was taken by Pari Dukovic for Time magazine in 2019 after Trump announced his run for reelection.
“The image depicts him perched at the edge of a maroon chair with one hand resting on the historic Resolute Desk in the Oval Office,” Smithsonian Magazine reported.
SMITHSONIAN CREATES FIRST 3D PORTRAIT OF OBAMA
Dukovic’s photograph will be on display until Trump’s presidential portrait is completed. It will take the place of where former President Barack Obama’s portrait hung, as it is the newest addition to the collection.
“We are in the process of commissioning official portraits of President Trump and Mrs. Trump but have no updates to share at this time. The commissioning timeline can vary due to the creative process and scheduling,” a Smithsonian spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

Five military flags are featured in the photo (the Army, the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard), as well as a portion of an 1835 portrait of Andrew Jackson and a 1785 portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The Space Force’s flag was not featured as it was not a military branch until after the photograph was taken.
The museum has been shut down since Nov. 23, 2020, due to fears about spreading the coronavirus. It will reopen on May 14.
