Public pools in the District will stay open longer this week to provide residents a place to cool off as daytime and evening temperatures are expected to stay the danger zone until the weekend.
The D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation reminds residents they are encouraged to stay inside if possible, but if they must venture outside, they can hit up select pools in the city during the evening.
Residents also should be reminded that hot and humid conditions can cause medical problems like heat stroke and exhaustion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consider heat stroke to be the most serious heat-related illness. Signs for heatstroke include: Hot and dry skin (no sweating), hallucinations, chills, throbbing headache, high body temperature, confusion/dizziness and/or slurred speech.
