French President Emmanuel Macron spent $30,000 on makeup-related expenses

French President Emmanuel Macron spent €26,000, or around $30,000, on makeup-related expenses in his first three months in office, according to a report Thursday.

Macron’s makeup assistant charged two service fees — €10,000 and €16,000 — to the Elysee Palace.

Palace officials justified the service fees and said they were the result of having “called in a contractor as a matter of urgency,” the Telegraph noted.

Macron’s team also promised to decrease the amount spent on cosmetics for the 39-year-old leader and his 64-year-old wife Brigitte Macron though it’s not clear if he or his wife used all of the makeup or services from these charges.

Macron has called for government officials to make “intelligent” spending cuts — €13 billion worth by 2022 — following a period of “deep reflection.”
