Surveillance footage caught the moment a Florida man drove his pickup truck through a wall of an airport and landed near the rental car counter.
Juan Monsivis is accused of crashing his 2015 GMC Sierra “at a very high rate of speed” into Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport around 3 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Police said prior to the crash, they saw Monsivis driving in a “reckless manner,” and while attempting to catch up to him and perform a traffic stop, he turned and crashed through a chain-link fence surrounding the airport and plowed full speed into the wall of the airport.
“There were a couple people behind the rental car counter,” Fredrick Piccolo, president and CEO of the airport, told USA Today. “They’re shaken up but not injured.”
Monsivis was taken to the hospital where he is recovering. Piccolo said the incident caused more than $250,000 in damage to the airport’s facilities.
Police are still investigating the incident.
