Ad accuses Steyer of dividing Democrats

A conservative group is hitting billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer for dividing the Democratic Party between labor unions and environmental groups with a new ad being pushed on Facebook.

AR Squared, the policy arm of America Rising, released the ad Wednesday as part of its latest hit on Steyer. The group announced in April it would be treating Steyer’s environmental agenda with scrutiny usually reserved for a presidential candidate, and the accusations of dividing the Democratic Party are the latest push.

According to the ad, Steyer is upsetting union members, long a stalwart group in the Democratic Party, by opposing energy projects that would have provided them jobs. The ad goes on to accuse presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton of siding with billionaires such as Steyer over workers.

“Tom Steyer’s millions in political donations are driving a wedge in the Democratic Party between environmentalists and labor unions, who recently called him a ‘billionaire job-killer and environmental extremist,'” said Jeremy Adler, communications director for AR Squared.

“It’s no surprise that Hillary Clinton, who’s promised to put energy workers ‘out of business,’ would side with Steyer and his billions against the interests of working Americans.”

The group is spending thousands of dollars — the full amount is unspecified — to promote the ad on its Core News Facebook page.
