The U.S. Men’s National Team has been knocked out of the World Cup after a loss to the Netherlands.
The Netherlands took control in the first half, with attacker Memphis Depay and defender Daley Blind scoring their first goals in the tournament. The second half saw Haji Wright giving the American team some hope by getting back to 2-1. However, it was immediately followed by the Netherlands’ Denzel Dumfries scoring the team’s third goal.
The match ended 3-1, with the United States left to rue a string of missed chances.

The Netherlands will now advance to face the winner of Saturday’s other match between Argentina and Australia.
Leading up to the game, the Netherlands had two wins against Qatar and Senegal and a draw with Ecuador. Dutch head coach Louis van Gaal also confirmed his players, including star midfielder Frenkie de Jong, were ill with the flu before the knockout-stage game and gave the team a day of rest ahead of the match.
The U.S., meanwhile, had one win against Iran and shared two draws with the United Kingdom and Wales. Its star Christian Pulisic was cleared to play in the match and even started against the Netherlands, even though he suffered a pelvic contusion in scoring the winning goal against Iran earlier in the tournament.
