Florida jogger used martial arts to fend off attacker intent on fulfilling ‘his sexual fantasies’

A Florida jogger was attacked by a teenager Monday who was intent on killing him and using his dead body “to fulfill his sexual fantasies.”

The jogger used his martial arts training to fend off the assailant and detained him until police arrived, an arrest report obtained by FOX 35 Orlando said. Logan Smith, 18, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

“He further planned to place the victim’s body into his closet where the defendant stated no one would know, and the defendant could have the victim’s body all to himself. The defendant stated that he also planned to play with the victim to fulfill his sexual fantasies,” the report said.

The jogger told police that he runs about four times a week and never had a prior interaction with Smith. Smith allegedly said he had been monitoring the jogger, who often ran by his house, for about six weeks, the outlet reported. He said he planned to kill the jogger through strangulation and use bedsheets to drag his body to his house.

Smith says he made the decision to execute the attack after watching an unnamed movie. On Monday, he hid behind a nearby pole and waited for the jogger to pass by on his routine run, the outlet said. He then allegedly began wrapping a belt around the jogger’s neck, but the jogger was able to outmaneuver him.

The suspect also brought a can of Axe body spray that he intended to use to spray in the jogger’s eyes and a mallet to use to strike him. Smith is currently being held in Brevard County Jail without bail and is scheduled for a court date on Feb. 10.

A member of the suspect’s family told FOX 35 Orlando that the suspect had been diagnosed with two mental disorders at a young age. The family member said they were shocked by Smith’s alleged actions but were glad the victim survived.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Brevard County Sherriff’s Office for comment but did not receive a response.
