House Speaker Paul Ryan to lead delegation to Puerto Rico: Report

House Speaker Paul Ryan will visit Puerto Rico on Friday to survey damage from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the latter of which devastated the island when it hit late last month.

Ryan, R-Wis., will be accompanied by four other members of Congress from both sides of the aisle, his office told the Washington Post. Those joining the speaker are Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., and Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon, a Republican.

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm late last month. The storm knocked out power for the entire island, and caused billions of dollars in damage.

Just over half of Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority customers have access to drinking water, and 16 percent of the island has electricity, according to the Puerto Rican government.
