Obama on Senate GOP: ‘This isn’t kindergarten’

President Obama said Americans think Senate Republicans who refuse to meet Judge Merrick Garland are acting like children.

“Originally, they said they wouldn’t even meet with the guy,” Obama told Buzzfeed Monday during a live interview streamed on Facebook and YouTube. “And they heard from a lot of their constituents that said, ‘well, you know, this isn’t kindergarten, just because you’re not happy with what’s happened you don’t do your job,'” he said.

Almost 20 Republicans have already backed off pledges not to meet with Obama’s candidate to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia after constituents demanded meetings, Obama said.

As voters continue pressing Republicans to hold hearings on Garland, “more and more Republican senators will recognize that the position they are taking is not tenable,” Obama predicted.
