Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) explained her choice of endorsement for the replacement for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after voting to oust him as House speaker.
Mace appeared on Face the Nation on Sunday to elaborate on her endorsement of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). Jordan is the founding member of the Freedom Caucus and an eight-term representative. Additionally, he is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

“I will tell you today: I am going to be supporting Jim Jordan for speaker for a number of reasons. I think that his values, his work ethic, his ability to just run circles around everyone with regards to policy. And pushing forward, we’ve been one of the least productive Congresses inside of 30 years, and he’s going to be a workhorse for our country,” Mace said.
Mace was one of the eight who ousted McCarthy, saying the speaker didn’t “move on women’s issues and legislation.” Jordan has been staunchly anti-abortion in his stances.
“There are going to be all sorts of issues we agree and disagree on,” Mace said of Jordan’s positions. She also admitted she was not aware of the allegations against him that he ignored sexual abuse at Ohio State University.

Mace’s endorsement is the latest that Jordan has garnered, on top of one from former President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who serves as House majority leader, has also announced he is running.
McCarthy’s speakership was the shortest term in over a century at more than nine months. He followed former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who served for just shy of eight years.
