The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts honors its founder, Joanne Scott, in the venue’s latest exhibit. The retrospective opens Friday.
“Joanne Scott: A 50-Year Retrospective” in the Chaney Gallery will features painting — both watercolor and acrylic — etchings, monoprints, pen and ink drawings, and handmade books by Scott. In addition to establishing the Maryland Hall, Scott also founded the Annapolis Watercolor Club and has displayed her works in numerous solo, two-artist and group exhibitions around the country. A poet and author in addition to her artistic work, Scott has maintained a summer studio in Maine as well as a home and studio in Chestertown.
Also opening Friday at the Maryland Hall is “Angels With Flat Feet.” The exhibit highlights the work of Philadelphia artist Lynne Dian Gulezian. The works featured in the exhibit focus on the lives of people she encountered while living part of each year in South Africa over the past two decades. Using mixed media, the paintings tell the story of calamity and hope in imaginative images, and include portraits and abstracts with strong and vivid colors. Gulezian has had solo and group exhibitions at galleries in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
