Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and talk show host Bill Maher came off congenial during an episode that aired Friday.
Cruz was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher. The senator was featured in a one-on-one segment with Maher, and he did a panel discussion. Throughout the episode, Maher and Cruz laughed at each other’s jokes and complimented each other.

“You have a show where the Right and Left talk to each other. I don’t know of another show on TV that does that. We live in these separate echo chambers,” Cruz told Maher.
Maher smiled when Cruz told him he was “funny as hell” and an “old-school liberal.”
“I feel so bad about all the jokes I have done about you,” Maher responded. He referred to their conversations on the episode as “a good time.”
Cruz has recently released his book, Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America, and promoted it in the episode. Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel had a segment on his show the same night featuring a drag queen story hour surrounding the book. Musician and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner Trixie Mattel read excerpts from the book to a group of children.
“I actually really appreciate what you do,” Cruz told Maher.

“Let’s say this is the beginning of a friendship,” Maher told Cruz.
Maher was in hot water when he nearly began production on his show while writers were still on strike. The comedian waited until the Writers Guild of America ended its strike and came to an agreement with Warner Bros., which owns HBO.
