Minnesota governor orders state agencies to cut ties with Russian entities

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz issued an executive order Friday directing state agencies to terminate all contracts with Russian entities.

In a press release, Walz said the purpose of the order is “to condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine and support the people of Ukraine.”

“Minnesota stands firmly with Ukraine and strongly condemns the Russian government’s actions,” Walz said. “Today, I signed an executive order directing my Cabinet agencies to stop doing business with Russian entities to help ensure that our state does not aid the Russian government’s aggression against Ukraine.”

The order comes as three Russian tankers arrive at three U.S. ports. Twenty additional tankers, carrying more than 14 million barrels of oil, are set to join them.

“I encourage other individuals, companies, and organizations to stand with their Ukrainian neighbors and end support to Russian entities,” Walz went on. “I also urge Minnesotans to support our fellow Russian Minnesotans, many of whom are horrified and alarmed by the Russian government’s aggression toward Ukraine.”
