President Trump on Friday warned Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that he “better be careful” after the foreign leader issued a veiled threat against the U.S. and other countries.
Rouhani earlier Friday said other nations would come to “regret” threatening Iran. He declined to disclose what retaliatory measures the government might take.
“He better be careful,” Trump said of Rouhani during an unexpected visit with reporters aboard Air Force One.
The Trump administration put Iran “on notice” last week and later announced new sanctions on more than two dozen Iranian individuals and entities.
Rouhani was speaking on the anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
“Some inexperienced figures in the region and America are threatening Iran … They should know that the language of threats has never worked with Iran,” he said, according to a report.
Trump has previously said “nothing is off the table” when it comes to responding to Iranian aggression.
