Gunman dead after multiple people shot at New Hampshire State Hospital

At least one person was wounded at the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord, local law enforcement officials said Friday, with the shooter killed.

In addition to the shooter, one person was shot in the hospital lobby, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press, but the extent of the victim’s injuries was unclear. The scene around the hospital remains active as investigators look at a suspicious vehicle, according to the New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

“The state immediately mobilized, and first responders and law enforcement are on the scene.” Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) said in a statement. “We will provide as many details as possible as this situation unfolds.”

A shooting at a New Hampshire psychiatric hospital Friday ended with the suspect dead, police said.


Local police said the shooting was contained to the front lobby of the psychiatric hospital and all patients are safe. The Concord hospital is the only state-run psychiatric hospital for adults in New Hampshire.

Following the announcement of the suspect’s death, authorities said there was no active threat to the public, but the public was encouraged to stay away from the area while law enforcement continued to investigate.

The shooting on Friday is the latest in a series of attacks on hospitals, which has made the healthcare field one of the most violent in the United States.
