Trump on Order From His Campaign Staff: ‘Throw It The Hell Out’

In recent weeks, there have been numerous reports that Donald Trump’s campaign is disorganized and understaffed. A new report from Bloomberg seems to support that view, and suggests his campaign may be struggling to handle Trump’s messaging in a way he finds suitable.

On a call with high-profile surrogates, Trump reportedly discussed issues pertaining to his controversial comments about the judge in the case about Trump University. Even those who have endorsed Trump have rebuked him for his comments.

According to the Bloomberg report, an email was sent to surrogates, asking them to stop talking about Trump’s comments and the Trump University case.

Trump called that order “stupid.”

When former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer interrupted the discussion to inform Trump that his own campaign had asked surrogates to stop talking about the lawsuit in an e-mail on Sunday, Trump repeatedly demanded to know who sent the memo, and immediately overruled his staff. “Take that order and throw it the hell out,” Trump said. Told the memo was sent by Erica Freeman, a staffer who circulates information to surrogates, Trump said he didn’t know her. He openly questioned how the campaign could defend itself if supporters weren’t allowed to talk. “Are there any other stupid letters that were sent to you folks?” Trump said. “That’s one of the reasons I want to have this call, because you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren’t so smart.”

Trump went so far as to suggest those asking questions about the Trump U case “are the racists.”

The report seems to add to the perception that Trump’s campaign is unstable. It isn’t unusual for a candidate’s message to fail, but it is very unusual for the candidate to contradict the messaging his staff has created.
