AOL co-founder worried Trump’s immigration stance ‘scaring people off’

AOL co-founder Steve Case said Thursday that he is troubled by Donald Trump’s hardline approach to immigration, and says the U.S. needs to make sure it remains a “magnet for talent.”

“The issue of the border and immigration troubles me. I think we need to be welcoming talent and be a magnet for talent, not scaring people off,” Case said on MSNBC. The businessman endorsed Clinton Wednesday.

Case questioned Donald Trump’s decision to make sealing off the border a cornerstone of his campaign. He argued that there aren’t that many illegal immigrants coming into the country anymore anyway.

“And frankly, right now the net migration between Mexico is close to zero. As many people are going back as are coming in,” Case said in the interview.

When asked whether he thought Trump is “dangerous,” Case simply said that is a “strong word” but admitted he is worried about the GOP nominee’s temperament.

“Dangerous is a strong word. But yeah, I do worry about some of the issues surrounding his temperament,” Case said, adding he is worried about the Republican’s judgement on global affairs. The entrepreneur said he was “surprised” to conclude that Trump has little to offer the business community compared to Clinton.

“I’m surprised, actually. Trump is very successful in business and more of an entrepreneur so you think there would be more a natural affinity there, but he hasn’t really focused on the real policy issues,” Case said. “I thought he would come out with plans, he never has, even this week with the debate. There wasn’t any real substance.”
