White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre would not comment Tuesday on the news that former Vice President Mike Pence‘s team discovered classified documents at his home in Indiana.
The Pence news comes just weeks after President Joe Biden‘s team revealed the discovery of classified documents from when he was vice president in his Washington, D.C., office and Wilmington, Delaware, home. Former President Donald Trump was also found to improperly hold classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, his South Florida club and post-presidency residence, in 2022.
CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS FOUND IN PENCE’S INDIANA HOME
Jean-Pierre faced several questions during Tuesday’s press briefing about the discovery and whether the process for maintaining classified information needs to be reformed, but she referred inquiries to the Department of Justice.
“I’m not going to comment on any ongoing criminal investigation or any investigation. As you will know, the Department of Justice is independent, and we will not politically interfere,” Jean-Pierre told reporters. “We’ve been very, very clear about that.”
“The president’s been very clear since his campaign promises, and so I’m just going to refer you to Department of Justice,” she continued. “I’m not going to comment from here on that. I would refer you to the White House counsel and anything related to classified documents.”

Biden and Jean-Pierre heartily criticized Trump last year for his mishandling of classified information but have avoided commenting on the DOJ’s investigation of the Biden documents.
