Miami police have released new footage of an officer’s heroic, breathtaking rescue on the side of a busy highway.
Reginald Mathieu, a highway patrol officer in Florida, saved the life of a 1-year-old who was choking and had fallen unconscious, according to recently revealed footage. Mathieu found cars pulled over on the freeway and a small cluster of people surrounding the unconscious baby. One of the bystanders had previously attempted to save the child using an anti-choking device.

“Trooper Mathieu recently responded to an emergency involving a 1 year old toddler who was unresponsive on I-95,” Miami’s chapter of the Florida Highway Patrol tweeted Sunday. “Trooper Mathieu’s first aid training immediately kicked in as he jumped into action, performing a series of back blows until the toddler regained consciousness.”
When the baby regained consciousness, she was taken to the nearest hospital as a precaution, the FHP said. Authorities did not reveal what the baby was choking on.
