There is an “epidemic of dishonesty” in Washington, D.C., threatening Americans, according to former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Bloomberg spoke about the “barrage of lies” in national politics during a commencement speech to Rice University in Texas on Saturday. But in an interview with the Associated Press before the speech, he did not single out President Trump, nor did he name any politicians during the speech.
“This is bigger than any one person. It’s bigger than any one party,” according to a report on the interview.
Bloomberg blamed “extreme partisanship” for the rampant dishonesty in U.S. politics.
He added that people are more committed to their “political tribes” than to the truth, and added the nation is more divided than any time since the Civil War, according to the AP.
Bloomberg served for three terms as the New York mayor and flirted with a run for president as an independent in 2016.
