NEW ORLEANS (AP) — When New Orleans actress Laura Cayouette received a script for the film “Django Unchained,” it wasn’t hard for her to figure out the role of a Southern belle was written with her in mind.
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino sent the script to the actress more than a year ago to get her take on the story. She says she was blown away by the prospect of being in the film — in which she plays the character Lara Lee.
Cayouette is among a host of locals included in the film, which was shot in New Orleans and two south Louisiana plantation homes earlier this year. Although most of the locals are background extras, Cayouette plays the widowed older sister of Calvin Candie, a plantation owner played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
