Wayne LaPierre rips media elites for lying to Americans

The leader of the National Rifle Association said his group is standing up for Americans who want government to leave them alone and is a bulwark against a lying press.

Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the NRA, said Friday in a speech at the NRA’s annual meeting that his group polls better than Congress, both political parties and Major League Baseball. He gave a fire-and-brimstone message of anti-elitism, and said it’s a movement sweeping the country.

“More and more all over this country, good decent honest Americans are seeing right through all the lies of the elites,” LaPierre said.

LaPierre opened for President Trump’s remarks at the annual meeting in Atlanta.

During his speech, LaPierre boasted that the NRA backed Trump early in the campaign and never wavered on that support despite the frequent controversies Trump was embroiled in.

He said Trump is like the NRA in that it tells the truth, and that’s why NRA members went heavily for Trump.

“We’ve kicked hundreds of politicians out of office and sent them into obscurity by speaking truth,” he said.
