White House legislative director Marc Short to exit as early as summer: Report

White House legislative director Marc Short will reportedly leave the Trump administration as soon as this summer.

News of Short’s departure comes as sources told the Wall Street Journal he has complained to colleagues about the “diminishing returns” of advocating for President Trump’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill.

When asked for comment by the Journal, Short — who oversees the White House’s congressional outreach efforts — bemoaned the administration’s problems with staffers talking to the press.

“There are so many leaks in this building,” he said.

Short, who was an aide to Vice President Mike Pence during the 2016 campaign, has worked at the White House since inauguration.

Short’s expected exit follows other high-profile administration officials leaving their posts, including former White House communications director Hope Hicks, Josh Raffel, Jared Kushner’s top communications adviser, and National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on Wednesday pushed back on a CBS News report claiming that she and principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah intend to depart the administration in the near future.

But a source told the Washington Examiner on Thursday that the pair is likely to move on before the 2020 election kicks into full gear.
