Jewish Democrat says he will not pursue censure of Marjorie Taylor Greene after her trip to Holocaust Museum

Illinois Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider announced he will no longer pursue a censure resolution of Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after she visited the Holocaust Museum and apologized for previous remarks.

Schneider’s Tuesday announcement came a day after Greene visited the D.C. Holocaust Museum and acknowledged her previous comparisons of COVID-19 safety measures to aspects of the Holocaust were “a mistake.”

Schneider, who is Jewish, said he was “pleasantly surprised to learn that she made the time to visit the Holocaust Memorial Museum,” adding, “In light of her apology, I am electing not to go forward at this time with introducing a resolution of censure.”

He also said he’ll “continue to call out harmful or dangerous rhetoric by my colleagues irrespective of which side of the aisle from which it emanates.”

Greene, during Monday’s press conference, noted that there is “nothing comparable” to the atrocities committed during the Holocaust, adding, “I want to say that I know that words that I’ve stated were hurtful, and for that, I am very sorry.”

In an interview in May, Greene claimed Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to lift the mandate was the equivalent of how Nazis singled out Jews.

“You know, we can look back at a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens,” she said during a May 20 podcast appearance on Just the News‘s The Water Cooler with David Brody. “So much so, they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany, and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”

She later stood by the comment, insisting to a reporter that she said “nothing wrong,” even though the top three House Republicans, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, and Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, condemned her for the repeated comparisons of the Holocaust to various aspects of coronavirus restrictions and regulations.

Greene attacked Democrats in a statement to the Washington Examiner at the time.

“At a time when the Socialist Democrats and the Jihad Squad are supporting terrorist Hamas, and their supporters are attacking Jewish people on the streets of America, it’s never been more important than now to stand up against forced vaccinations and mask mandates that the Left is using to discriminate against Americans who refuse to comply,” Greene stated. “Their attempts to shame, ostracize, and brand Americans who choose not to get vaccinated or wear a mask are reminiscent of the great tyrants of history who did the same to those who would not comply.”
