Missouri police said a mother admitted to decapitating her 6-year-old son Tuesday.
Authorities received a call on Tuesday night from Tasha Haefs, 35, who claimed the devil was trying to attack her. After getting a welfare check, police arrived at her Kansas City home and saw a child’s severed head inside the building, according to KCBD.
“The community now knows some of the terrible details of the death of this 6-year-old child,” Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement. “It takes our breath away. My office, as it always has, pledges to do everything in its power to bring justice in this young boy’s murder.”
Police entered the house through the back door and found Haefs with blood on her legs and feet. After searching the house, officers found the child’s body, as well as a decapitated dog in the basement, police said.

Haefs told detectives the victim was her biological child and admitted to killing him, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. Baker’s statement said Haefs is charged with murder in the first degree and armed criminal action. She is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center, and her bond request was “no bond.”
