US governors and Canadian premiers call for end to border vaccine mandate

A group of Canadian premiers and U.S. governors is calling for an end to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for cross-border truck drivers.

The government leaders, made up of two Canadian premiers and 16 governors from the United States, penned a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Joe Biden requesting they reinstate vaccine and quarantine exemptions, citing “negative impacts on the North American supply chain, the cost of living, and access to essential products for people of both countries.”

“We understand the vital importance of vaccines in the fight against COVID-19 and continue to encourage eligible individuals to get vaccinated,” the letter read. “The timing of your decision to terminate the vaccine and quarantine exemptions could not have been worse, as North America already faces grave supply chain constraints.”

The letter noted that Trudeau and Biden’s policies are further straining workforce shortages, and it is the latest in politicians blasting COVID-19 mandates.
