White House: Republicans ‘lie’ about Obama’s record

The White House charged Thursday that Republicans “lie” about President Obama’s record, which is why officials are explaining to people what they have done right over the last seven years.

“There are Republicans who go to great lengths to lie about the president’s record,” spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. And “it’s important that Americans have the facts about what works” so they can make smart decisions about how to proceed, he said.

“So I think just as a factual matter, it’s important for people to understand that” in general, and in light of the upcoming election in particular, he said.

Americans need all the facts to determine whether they want to vote for “someone who will continue” his successful approach, “or someone who will scrap it,” Earnest said.

President Obama himself recently lamented Americans’ lack of understanding of his early actions and Democrats’ inability to defend his record.

His subordinates are increasingly repeating those assertions to show that the growing economy and reduced budget deficit, among other things, are direct results of Obama’s actions, Earnest said.

“There’s a sense in the White House that the American people need to understand” what exactly Obama has been doing the past seven years, Earnest said.

He assumed the presidency when the U.S. economy was on the verge of collapse. And Obama “had a very specific strategy” for doing everything from preventing a second Great Depression to helping the middle class to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon to fighting climate change, Earnest said.
