Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday that his campaign raked in $10.7 million in the second fundraising quarter, a gargantuan amount in his bid to unseat Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., in November.
Scott’s campaign says that the total comes from over 11,000 contributors and 75 percent of those gave less than $500. Of those who contributed, 80 percent are Florida residents. Most notably, the total does not include any money from Scott, a multi-millionaire who has given to his campaigns heavily in the past.
“We’re on a mission to reform Washington so that it actually works for us, and I appreciate the support of everyone who has come together to help us reach this goal,” Scott said in a statement. “By raising more than $10.7 million in less than three months, we are sending a message to Washington that the time of career politicians is over — and our momentum is not slowing down.
“I look forward to continuing to show Washington and the rest of the country what it means to get to work,” Scott said.
The total places Scott among the most prolific fundraisers in the 2018 cycle. After announcing his campaign in early April, Scott’s campaign announced that he raised $3.2 million in his first three weeks — the same amount Nelson raised in the first three months of 2018.
Scott’s campaign did not release its cash-on-hand total. Nelson has not announced any totals for the second quarter yet.
According to the latest RealClearPolitics average, Scott leads the incumbent Democrat by a 2-point advantage in what is likely to be one of the most contentious races of the 2018 cycle.
