Trump hits New York Times for ‘another phony story’

President Trump said Wednesday the New York Times ran “another phony story” that shows the Times is writing “fake” news about his alleged ties to Russia.

“The Failing New York Times wrote another phony story. It was political pundit Doug Schoen, not a Ukrainian businessman, who asked me to do a short speech by phone (Skype), hosted by Doug, in Ukraine,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “I was very positive about Ukraine-another negative to the Fake Russia C story!”

The Times published an article Monday about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into a $150,000 payment from a Ukrainian billionaire to the Trump Foundation in exchange for a video appearance from then-presidential candidate Trump at a conference in Kiev.

The investigation began shortly after Mueller ordered Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen’s office to be raided by the FBI.

However, Trump claimed in his tweet that the payment he received for speaking at the conference over Skype call was not from any Ukrainian citizen or entity, but instead from political pundit Doug Schoen who was hosting the event in the Ukraine.

Trump tweeted later that there is “So much Fake News” out there that is ignoring the progress his administration is making on China, North Korea and other issues.
