Tim Tebow blasts first spring training home run

Tim Tebow cracked his first home run of Major League Baseball spring training on Tuesday.

Suited up for the New York Mets, Tebow ripped a toss from Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson into the stands for a two-run homer. The Mets eventually lost the game, which was played in Lakeland, Florida, to the Tigers 9-6.

The home run was the first for the former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner in his four spring training seasons with the Mets. The hit was Tebow’s first home run of any kind since July 5.

“I had a chance to see a few [pitches] and just tried to be tight and on time,” Tebow, 32, said after the game. “It feels really good. I feel like I’m seeing the ball pretty good.”

Tebow is in his fifth year in the minor leagues and is attempting to earn a spot on a major league roster for the first time in his career. His last four seasons in baseball have been cut short by injury.

Tebow has also been a longtime supporter of the anti-abortion movement and recently said he would rather be saving babies than winning Super Bowls.
