Most people still not seeing benefits of tax cuts: Poll

Most voters are still not seeing the Trump tax cuts show up in their paychecks, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

Only a quarter of voters say they have seen an increase in their take-home pay thanks to the major tax overhaul signed by President Trump in December, according to a poll released by Morning Consult.

Meanwhile, 52 percent of people polled say they haven’t noticed the tax cuts in their paychecks.

Those results are problematic for Trump and Republicans who banked on the tax law gaining popularity after the tax cuts flowed to the public. It appears that even fewer people are noticing the tax cuts now compared to March.

The IRS rolled out new withholding tables at the beginning of the year, meaning that paychecks should be bigger. Most people should be getting more take-home pay.

The tax overhaul remains more unpopular than popular, and more than 40 percent of the public disapprove of it, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polling.

Republicans plan to highlight the benefits of tax cuts before this fall’s elections. The House GOP plans votes on measures to extend the tax cuts for individuals, which the law made temporary.

The Morning Consult poll, conducted in late June, included a sample of nearly 2,000 registered voters.
