Virginia’s lieutenant governor put her foot down after her gavel went missing.
Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears had to adapt when an “unknown prankster” hid her gavel on Monday before a session of the Virginia state Senate. So the woman used her shoe as a fill-in for the role.
“Resourcefulness — never underestimate it!” Sears tweeted on Monday with a photo of her “high-heeled patent leather pump” in hand.

Sears also remarked to the Washington Post’s Laura Vozzella that “One shoe can change a life. Just ask Cinderella.”
Sears was elected alongside Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin in November 2021, making her the first black woman lieutenant governor in the history of Virginia.
The lieutenant governor signed a state senate bill on Monday that “affirms parental rights by allowing them to opt-out of school mask mandates for their child.”
