Eric Greitens launches ad campaign attacking ‘fake news’ coverage of him

Republican Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens is attacking alleged “fake news” coverage of various accusations against him as part of a $185,000 television ad campaign timed to coincide with a Missouri state lawmaker vote regarding his impeachment.

“Court documents prove the fake news paid thousands for allegations against Greitens, a liberal St. Louis prosecutor funded by George Soros pressed charges and Democrat leadership orchestrated the false attacks,” the narrator in an ad posted on Greitens’ Facebook page Tuesday says.

The ad, set to run through June when Missouri lawmakers will likely vote on his impeachment, also encourages voters to not “let the liberals get away with it.”

Earlier this year, Greitens was accused of blackmailing a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair. Although Greitens has admitted to the relationship, he denies he blackmailed the woman.

Additionally, Greitens’ former campaign manager claims Greitens knowingly deceived the state ethics commission on how he obtained a veterans charity’s donor list. The campaign manager also asserts he was tricked into taking the blame for the move.

Should Greitens be impeached, Lt. Gov. Mike Parson would replace him as governor and fulfill the remainder of Greitens’ term until the beginning of 2021.

Greitens, a former Navy SEAL who was previously a Democrat, was elected governor as a Republican in 2016.
