Kim Kardashian attends White House meeting on prison reform

Kim Kardashian West arrived at the White House early Wednesday to discuss prison reform and lobby President Trump on the release of another person sentenced to life in prison for drug-related charges.

It’s the second time Kardashian has met with Trump in recent months to secure the release of a nonviolent drug offender. The president granted clemency to 63-year-old Alice Johnson in June after Kardashian met with Trump in the Oval Office. This time, she’s pushing for the release of Chris Young, a 30-year-old serving a life sentence for a drug conspiracy.

“When I looked at Alice, I said we can’t just stop with one person. We have to change the laws,” Kardashian said in a statement.

White House counsel Don McGahn was presented with Young’s case during a meeting with a right-leaning policy advocate in June and appeared to react favorably to the case, the Washington Examiner previously reported.

“Today at the White House, members of the administration are hosting a listening session about the clemency process. The discussion is mainly focused on ways to improve that process to ensure deserving cases receive a fair review,” deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

Trump’s son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner, Young’s attorney Brittany Barnett, and news commentator Van Jones are also attending the event.
