Sen. Bernie Sanders was incredibly close to nabbing the Democratic nomination in 2020 until the Democratic establishment coalesced behind Joe Biden. Less than 40 days after a disappointing Super Tuesday result, Sanders dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Biden, ensuring that the progressive takeover of the Democratic Party would have to wait another four years.
