Rep. Don Bacon recovering from emergency appendectomy


Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) is recovering from an emergency appendectomy after being admitted to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., Wednesday night with severe abdominal pain.

Bacon, 59, is expected to be released from the hospital later Thursday and said he will quickly return to his legislative duties.

“I want to thank the medical team at Walter Reed Hospital for the efficient and swift care they provided not only to me, but those they serve daily,” Bacon said in a statement to the Washington Examiner, describing the procedure as a “home run.” “I’m looking forward to a full recovery and quickly returning to work.”

The Nebraska Republican was elected in 2016 and serves on the House Armed Services and Agriculture committees. Before running for Congress, he spent 29 years in the Air Force. He was one of 35 House Republicans who joined with Democrats in voting to establish the committee to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
